Self Development - a lifetimes journey experienced in a simple moment

If you are reading this text it is most likely that you are either starting out or are someway down the Self Development path. So what is it that you are looking for?
This question is not so easy to answer as you might think. Self Development is the journey to find out what you were looking for in the first place.
I have personally been on that journey for the past 25 years. The quest for answers has been all consuming, and at times frankly painful, but it has yielded a greater clarity on what self development is all about.
The first point to note is that although our life journeys may differ, the core principles of balance and 'self' sustainability are the same for all of us. These principles can be learnt the easy way, or the hard and often painful way through life experience, the university of life or the school of hard knocks, paths that we have all experienced.
As a general rule, if something feels like hard work then it is usually because you are doing it wrong! Yes YOU! Everyone and everything are not to blame for what happens in your life, remember who is always at the scene of the crime! It's the chicken and the egg, what came first what you do or think, or what happens to you?
If you encounter friction and turbulence then it is often the universe giving you the message that you need to improve your technique. To achieve a different result consider changing what you do! Remember Same actions = Same results
'Don't wish it was easier - wish you were better' Jim Rohn
'There is no such thing as failure- just feedback' Peter Jones.
The Law of Karma implies a connection between you and everything around you.
Most people are familiar with the phrase ' What goes around comes around' . So, it turns out that the universe, which includes you, is a giant cause and effect engine. What happens to you is connected to What you do. What you experience is dependent on how you are experiencing it.
This seems a little weird don't you think?
Self Development is the journey towards this realisation. Basically joining up the dots between what you are doing and the effect that this is having. Most people are familiar with the Law of Attraction, which was popularised by the book the Secret. They took a book and a film to come to the conclusion that basically you attract what your thoughts are! If you want something then you need to think about it. If you think about things you do not want, namely things you fear, then you attract them into your life until such time as you learn the discipline of thought to focus and think about the things you do want. Simples.
Self Development is a wonderful thing. It enables you to claim back the keys to the universe you have been creating, but not realising that it was your thoughts that were giving the instructions!
And what about the universe, is that real? Well, you may not be surprised to learn that all is not as it seems. To start with you need to imagine that the universe acts as a kind of mirror. If you are out of balance with it then it will act as a kind of counterbalance. So what you experience is entirely contextual to you. When you start out on the self development road you are usually not very good at picking up the signs from the universe. As you go down the road and work out what is happening you have a heightened awareness of the relationship between what you are doing or thinking and what is happening. This is known as 'self awareness'.
If you listen to Deepak Chopra, who has written some good material over the years, he explains it by saying that what you experience is merely your self curving back on itself. You are in effect experiencing your 'self'.
Self Development is the path to gaining a greater understanding of the way things actually are as opposed to how you think they are. The Buddha explained that our habit of 'false reasoning and discriminating' was the reason for our false picture of reality. In a nutshell there is no boundary between us and everything around us and our habits of being judgemental and harbouring prejudices are in effect shooting ourselves in the foot, because in the purest sense you are all there is.
'The only assumption that can be made about the nature of reality is that no assumptions can be made' Allan Willis
When you explore your concept of reality you will find it is based on certain assumptions. This is where the errors occur!
Remember that nothing is absolute, everything is relativistic ' Improbable but not Impossible' . If you set in concrete an assumption that something is impossible you are asking for trouble. It would be fair to say that the universe can create any observer - observed permutation between something and nothing. And moreover you can experience each one of these permutations in an infinite number of ways or perspectives. Your reality is merely being tuned into a sequence of these permutations. In its purest sense the universe is simply an energy ( or information exchange) Note: Energy and Information are different words to express the same thing. The total sum of energy is always zero or infinite (depending how you view it) but in effect it is just different permutations of zero, different energy combinations. The illusion of time, as a certain Albert Einstein pointed out, is created by the way you experience information flowing from one place to another. To visualise this think of the sea, the rainfall cycle and the rain, wherever it falls, always flowing back to the sea.
Energy works in the same way. It vibrates, and there is a separation from the sea of energy, but it always comes back. The only variable is that there are an infinite number of routes it can come back. If you imagine our lives as representing the different routes the energy can travel, and the infinite number of places the energy flowing back to the sea can be viewed from.
There is much to talk about self development, much to learn. My frustration on the journey was that I didn't know where I was going and how to move forward. I also found that nobody was giving me the big picture that I craved, glimpses here and glimpses there.
I have written Achieving Balance - A simple book that will change your life to make your journey through self development as smooth as possible. When it comes right down to it, the Self Development path is about finding balance between your 'Self' and everything around you, let's called it your anti-self. It is all ONE in reality. Achieving Balance is the most complete guide to balance, illustrated with over 60 illustrations, that is currently available. It will accelerate your self development journey and give you everything you need to know in an easy and digestible way. I realised that my 25 year quest for knowledge, that has incorporated literally hundreds of books has been condensed into a book that can be read in a matter of hours.
Balance, self development, self help call it what you will is the pursuit of a sustainable relationship between you (self) and everything else (anti-self). A place where you are in phase, in harmony, in tune with self, anti self and what is.
If you imagine your reflection in a mirror, as you move towards the mirror the reflection moves towards you. Balance is the same, as you become more balanced with everything then in turn everything becomes more balanced with you until you reach the holy grail of balance, the holy grail when you are balanced with everything else (acceptance) and therefore everything else is balanced with you. At this point the Beatles song will resonate with you
The Long and winding road that leads to your door,
Will never disappear,
A good reason to go down the self development path is that Imbalance = Pain in one form or another, alcoholism, addiction, depression are all examples. The pain can be avoided with an increased awareness of your 'self', as it is self inflicted (often without the person knowing). A person's potential for genius is always matched by the mirror image, their potential for self destruction. This is why some of the great geniuses through history have had significant character flaws.
To find balance, all that is required is an open mind, a willingness to change old habits, and an open heart. The good news is that finding balance is a personal choice, it is always within your control. You always have the choice of learning to love your life journey. I will repeat that because it is important, it is always your choice whether you love your life journey or not.
Please take a look at the reviews for Achieving Balance on Amazon.co.uk, and feel free to contact me if you need any help along your self development path.
I have a vested interest in your enlightenment. It turns out that my wellbeing is connected to yours. If I help you along your path then this helps me along mine. We all cross the finishing line at the same time - because we are all ONE. We always have been ONE and always will be, we are just at different stages of realising it. This is the Self development path in its truest sense. So, read Achieving Balance, tell your friends, send a copy to your boss anonymously, and be happy in the knowledge that you have done your bit to help create a more balanced world. Since we are all connected on the internet these days then the path to all of us finding balance is not as far away as you might think. The same is true for complete destruction.
Living in a world where we all work against each other is a little boring don't you think?
And the only way it is going to change is if good people like you wake up and smell the coffee (in the nicest sense), and we learn to work together with sustainable values - collaboration, honesty, fairness, community and integrity.
Achieving Balance will teach you in a matter of hours what has taken me 25 years of pushing everything in my life to the wire! Oh, how I wish I had been able to read it all those years ago, or do I? The journey has been as interesting as the destination. I have been able to write a book that will hopefully help others, what could be more worthwhile?
I also have the Teeshirt 'Been there'.
Good luck on your self development path!
Warm Regards
Allan Willis

In my personal quest for balance I have read literally hundreds of self help, self awareness, balance, psychology and philosophy books.
But reading the books will only get you so far.
It is practically applying the knowledge to your life that starts to create positive results.
The problem with some self improvement books is that you have to read 300 pages to get to that little nugget of wisdom, the next piece of the jigsaw. This makes progress often slow, coupled with often looking for answers in the wrong places or simply not knowing where to look.
Some authors might have a psychology degree, but it is evident that they lack the practical experience that provides the fertile ground for self improvement.
I wanted to create a book on balance that had everything in one place, a complete overview, and yet is simple to understand and easy to read. Achieving Balance answers the questions What is Balance? and How to apply balance to your Life? .
